Ishara Gamal

 

Ishara, who was a student of Conchie and Azha of Habeeba's dance of the Arts in Cincinnati, has been teaching and performing since 2000. She offers group and private classes in Egyptian, Turkish, and American Tribal style belly dance. Ishara believes that belly dance in America should not attempt to be a perfect representation of the dance in the Middle East, but a unique and creative experience for every women. She feels strongly that this dance has the potential to change the way women think about their sensuality, and build a safe and supportive community where women can be proud of the strength and ability inherent in their bodies. Aliyah Abir

 


 

 

  Specializing in Cane, Sword, Zils, Veil, Double Veil and Shemadan (candelabra), Aliyah began her love affair with Middle Eastern Dance under the direction of the Janette Brenner of Monterey. This dance has a special place in her heart. It is an integral part of the strong foundation from which all things peaceful and uplifting in Aliyah’s life are born into existence. Aliyah believes that the beauty, strength and empowerment that she was able to find in Middle Eastern is something that she must share with others, because it truly belongs to all those willing to receive it.

\ Tribe of Padma

The Tribe of Padma performs in the American Tribal style of belly dance. This style incorporates movements, costuming and music from many areas and cultures of the world. Tribe of Padma is heavily influenced by the Romany styles seen in other tribes such as the Gypsy Caravan and FatChance Bellydance. Indian mudra’s, Tibetan blessings and costuming, as well as traditional belly dance movements are also used regularly.

Tribe members are: Benazir with 4 years of study and performance in various styles of dance and choreography, Mahsati with experience in Tribal choreography and performance and Anastasia also with performance and choreography experience.

Aaminah Surayyah

 Aaminah was a student of Salwa in St. Lois before she came to Champaign for Graduate School. She believes strongly that belly dance is an affirmation of women and the female community, "It's creative sensuality need not compromise the performer nor force her into a merely titillating role".
